ITALIAN VOCAL TECHNIQUE
ANNOUNCEMENT
LAUNCH OF ITALIAN VOCAL TECHNIQUE (IVT) IN MELBOURNE.
Acclaimed soprano Lee Abrahmsen is proud to announce the launch of Italian Vocal Technique (IVT), a new Melbourne‑based performance initiative and studio dedicated to the art and tradition of bel canto. With a career already encompassing more than 45 principal roles—most recently in the Wagner repertoire, but equally grounded in the Italian works of Bellini, Donizetti, Puccini, Verdi, Mozart, and beyond—she brings a depth of technical and stylistic and stage experience to this new venture.
As a respected teacher in Melbourne, Lee is passionate about helping singers find freedom, ease, and expressive clarity in their voices. Italian bel canto, meaning “beautiful singing,” is both a technique and a stylistic tradition at the heart of Italian opera. It develops agility, evenness across the registers, and a release of tension, while valuing elegance, emotional nuance, and the long musical line that turns singers into storytellers.
For Lee, bel canto is more than a method; it is a holistic philosophy of vocal artistry—one that nurtures a healthy, expressive, and enduring instrument. Her approach is deeply informed by years of working with bel canto specialists such as Margaret Haggart in Melbourne and Antonio Moretti‑Pananti in Firenze, whose guidance in her formative years and beyond opened her understanding of the deeper meaning and discipline of the artform.
Through IVT, Lee is excited to share this depth of technical and stylistic experience with the next generation of singers, with colleagues looking to deepen their own practice, and with singers of any age who are curious to explore bel canto.
